Giving Gateshead the representation it deserves
Edda for MYP
Hi, my name is Edda, and I am so excited to be running as a candidate for the MYP of Gateshead. My key manifesto points are anti-racism, youth empowerment and climate action.

My Campaigns
These are the three central projects and campaigns I have created based on my manifesto points. Of course, even if I don't get elected as MYP, I will continue to partake in these projects as I am committed to these causes.

ARZ
Anti-Racist Zine artists (ARZ) is a campaign, where we make zines, aimed at educating our local area about structural racism and helping to build a community of anti-racists in the North East.

Project Pheonix: Green Gateshead
The Funky Pheonixes, an incredible group of young activists I am part of, have created an eco-friendly competition across primary schools. We aim to educate young children about the climate crisis, but also unite and empower them to take part in climate action.

Young Person's Blog
As part of my promise to help empower young people, I am setting up a blog, to educate young people about social action opportunities in their area and ways they can be an activist. I will also allow this to be an open blog, where people can post and publish their ideas and campaigns.
My Journey as an Activist

I started getting involved in social action through the Gateshead Youth Assembly when I was 12. Since then, I have been involved in numerous projects and campaigns, locally, nationally and even internationally! Through my time being an activist, I have overcame many hurdles; I especially struggled with learning to talk and network with other activists. I hope to inspire other people interested in social action along their own journey and want every young person to feel like they can be a part of change, like I do.

My Personal Skills
In additon to the campaigns I am running now, I have lots of knowledge and experience that would make me an incredibly suitable MYP.
Direct Experience as an MYP
When our last MYP, the wonderful Maebh Carey, had to step down, I took over as interim MYP as I was her deputy. This means I have not only attended events such as Youth Con in Hartlepool as an MYP, but even spoken in the House of Commons. I already have a foot in the door as an MYP, and will continue to push for the young people of Gateshead.
Years of Experience leading the Youth Assembly
Through my role as co-chair on the Gateshead Youth Assembly, I have become well versed with social action and youth projects in Gateshead. I have led sessions for young people for 2 years, so I understand how to connect with them and represent their views. I also have experience talking to local politicians, such as our MP Mark Ferguson, as well as the leader of the council Martin Gannon. Of course, I wouldn't have done any of this wonderful stuff without my amazing co-chair, Hannah Craggs.
Knowledge of national youth activism
Through my time on Biteback, a phenomenal campaign to push for a fairer food system, I have met many incredible young activists and MYPs. As a result, I am already interconnected within the "world" of youth activism and UK Youth Parliament, and will use the connections I have to make the greatest possible difference I can. This also means I am comfortable within the UK Youth Parliament space, and will not be afraid to speak my mind.
